NEW PICKUPS FOR A WASHBURN X50 Seymour Duncan User Group Forums (4)NEW PICKUPS FOR A WASHBURN X50

    Hi,

I've got a Washburn X50 PRO Q (mahogany body, r/wood neck & factory fitted S/Duncan custom & 59 pups) & I want to upgrade the bridge p/up ......I was thinking of a Dimebucker or an invader but I don't have access to a guitar with either fitted to test them.........

Any advice/experience much appreciated NEW PICKUPS FOR A WASHBURN X50 Seymour Duncan User Group Forums (5)

          Hi & thanks !

I think the custom is a nice pickup, but I'd like something more aggressive (I mainly play thrash/death type metal). I've just bought another X50 so I think I'll keep one as standard for more melow moments and one as the downtuned 'metal' version ! Re: NEW PICKUPS FOR A WASHBURN X50

Welcome! I second what Jeremy asked. What dont you like with the custom? Its a very cool versatile pup.. if you can say what you dont like or what you are looking for, we can help more.. Since you named the invader or dimebucker, sounds like you want a very heavy tone. ?? What kinda amp you play thrU? BTW, congrats on the Washburn! I love my washburns

Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

i would try the distortion, its my favorite high output pup without going custom shop. if you have a very fat amp the dimebucker can be very cool too

Re: NEW PICKUPS FOR A WASHBURN X50

                Hi,

Yes, looking for a heavier/crunchier tone (this prob won't help !) & maybe a less warm sound. There's also an element of fancying a change too ! I've been playing for over 20 years on and off (bass has been my main passion), but recently I've really got back into guitar & I'm still looking for a sound I really like.

Gear wise I use my X50 through a BOSS ML2 (metal core) pedal & a Line 6 Spider 4 combo, I've also got an MXR 6 band eq pedal on order.

Re Washburns - here in the UK (I'm presuming you're not here ?) don't have a great image, most people (rock/metal players) seem to go for Ibanez or Jackson, but I love mine !

The Custom is absolutely perfect in that guitar. Verify that it's a Custom, then change your signal path as necessary.

Swap it for a TB-5 Duncan Custom.

Or, if you don't mind a tiny amount of work, get a ceramic magnet and swap the magnet. That will make it into a Custom.

You are so right about ppl in the UK disregarding Washburn for playing metal on. I reckon it's because UK stores stock so many ibanez, jackson and esp guitars that washburn is not on our radar.

I play the same type of music, and find that no pickup is better than the DD. It is very aggressive and has a lot of midrange. If your playing rhythm, get this pickup.
