No. 5 Oregon State Beavers vs. Stanford Cardinal: Preview, starting lineup, how to watch baseball series finale (2024)

The No. 5 Oregon State Beavers host the Stanford Cardinal Sunday at Goss Stadium in the finale of a three-game Pac-12 series in Corvallis.

The Beavers used clean defense, exceptional pitching and timely hitting to win the first two meetings of the series, clinching a victory over the Cardinal for the first time since 2018. A win today would give OSU its first three-game sweep over Stanford since 2017.

Oregon State is undefeated in April and brings a pair of notable streaks into the finale — a 22-game winning streak at Goss Stadium and an eight-game winning streak overall. The home streak is two shy of the program record.

(For more on Game 1, which featured exceptional pitching by Aiden May and inspiring defense, read this recap. For more on Game 2, which included more solid pitching from Jacob Kmatz and Bridger Holmes, and clutch hitting, read this recap.)

Macias owns a 10-game hitting streak, during which he’s batting .375 with three homers, three doubles and seven RBIs. The sophom*ore outfielder has four homers this season and three have come in the last five games (including two this series). ... Weber is hitting .583 (14 for 24) with four doubles, three triples, eight RBIs and 10 runs scored in nine April games. ... Holmes had another memorable performance Saturday in what has been a dominant debut season in Corvallis, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his eighth save. The right-handed reliever has not surrendered an earned run in 20 innings this season, striking out 27. ... The Beavers’ starting pitching has been overpowering against Stanford as May (six innings, five strikeouts, three hits, zero runs) and Kmatz (six innings, six strikeouts, six hits, one run) have combined to allow just one run on nine hits in 12 innings. ... The Cardinal’s lone run came on a solo home run by Jimmy Nati in the second inning of Game 2. ... The Beavers have hit at least one homer in 15 consecutive games, giving them 64 this season.
