This cherry mango anti-inflammatory smoothie is a healthy and beautiful way to start the day!
Cherry mania is going on full force over here these days…I can’t stop buying them! My favorite thing to do right now is to pit them, and then freeze them to use in smoothies.
Did you know that cherry pits actually contain cyanide? And that the cyanide isn’t released unless the pit is crushed?
Well, about that…the other day I was merrily drinking a smoothie that I had made and I sucked up some pieces of pit through my straw. I guess a pit or two remained inside the cherries I had pitted, and my blender was strong enough to grind them up. I actually wound up calling poison control (Over a smoothie! Lol! Right?) and found out that the amount of cherry pit pieces was not enough to cause any harm. But they did tell me to throw the smoothie out. So always make sure you double-check for pits!
I love including sweet cherries in my smoothies because they have been shown to help with sleep, as they contain melatonin, and they also can help reduce inflammation. Mangoes are great for strengthening your immune system as they are high in vitamins A and C, and they are also full of antioxidants that help prevent cancer.
Cherries + mangoes = one healthy, delicious, anti-inflammatory smoothie! Of course you can just blend everything up together if you wish, I just separated it because it looks prettier.

I can not give a rating yet as I haven’t tried it yet. Can you substitute milk or yoghurt in this instead of water?

Pretty smoothie and looks delicious…but in my experience all frozen fruit has a sour/bitter taste…does the smoothie have enough sweetness?

I didn’t have a problem with the sweetness. But if you have a batch of frozen fruit that is a bit too tart, you can always add a bit of honey or maple syrup to the smoothie.

I wonder how it would taste with some greens as well. I’m going to give it a try.

This looks like a beautiful upside down tequila sunrise! Also, this reminds me of a story I heard when I was taking a cooking class one time. The instructor was working with kids one day and used a cherry pitter to remove the pits. She blended the blended the cherries right after, but she didn’t realize that some of the pits still stayed in! Needless to say, it was a bit of a mess…

Ah dang, I didn’t realize cherry pits have cyanide in them! Good thing you called poison control to make sure you were in the clear.
Loving this flavor infusion you’ve got going on here! Many and cherries are two of my favorite smoothie fruits, so this is making my mouth water! And it’s soooo purdy too!

Thanks, Julia! I know, so weird about the cherry pits. It’s in apple seeds, peach pits, and apricot pits as well.
